More than three hundred athletes were present at the second edition of Arena Beach Run, the fifth and final event of the Foz Plaza Figueira Beach Games program, a program promoted by the Figueirense municipality for the promotion of beach sports in the county.
Marked by a strong ecological aspect, especially in eco-walking, in which the participants were collecting garbage that they came across on the beach (which, incidentally, was transversal to all the events of this programming), this turned out to be a sporting afternoon of high quality, with two races of five and ten kilometers, in which the effort of running in the sand pushed the participants to the limit.
Foz Plaza Figueira Beach Games are part of Figueira Beach Sports City, a project promoted by the municipality of Figueira da Foz, which aims to develop innovative products and services in the area of beach sports.
Thousands of people attended the Foz Plaza Figueira Smash Fest, which took place from Friday to Sunday in the sports area of Buarcos, in Figueira da Foz.
Full Stands, good vibes and high quality beach volleyball made this event another great success.
The duos Leão / Oliveira (male) and Antunes / Oliveira (female) won the Figueira da Foz stage of the national beach volleyball circuit.
In the Figueira Smash Cup, were won (in men) the Tubarões do Liz, while in women the victory smiled to the team of Petekas.
This event, integrated in the Foz Plaza Figueira Beach Games, was characterized by three days of mild temperatures (far from the torrid heat that was felt in the 2018 edition) and had three events simultaneously: a stage of the Circuit National Senior Male and Female Championship (the penultimate of the championship, which will end in Porto), Gira Praia Circuit (under 14, under 16 and under 18) and also the Foz Plaza Smash Cup 4×4, which featured the categories male, female and Masters totaling more than half a thousand athletes.
The French team of Ovale Marseille (men) and the Portuguese team of Sport Porto (women) won the 10th edition of Foz Plaza Figueira Beach Rugby International, reinforcing the justice of the European title won the day before in Figueira da Foz.
In men the team of Ovale Marseille repeated the saturday victory against the (also) French team Les Minots (5-2), while in women Sport Porto won the title in Figueira da Foz after beating the French tean of Putain Nanas 7-3. In the men’s competition, we also highlight the good performance of Académica, who after winning the first edition of the tournament achieved, 10 years later, the second best result ever by securing fourth position.
The 10th edition of Foz Plaza Figueira Beach Rugby International was the last stage of the European Beach Rugby Circuit, organized by the European Beach Rugby Association, attracting the best teams and nations of the sport. The presence of 42 teams (28 male and 12 female) brought to Figueira da Foz over 700 athletes from 10 countries (Portugal, Pacific Islands, South Africa, Germany, Italy, Belgium, Netherlands, France, Curacao Islands and England ) which made this event the most important Beach Rugby tournament globally.
The Figueira Beach Rugby International organizers hopes that thousands of people attend the event to watch the largest beach rugby tournament in Europe.

FBSC : Hi Stefano! You and your team made history last year being one of the 1st teams participating in the Madjer Youth Beach Soccer Cup. Tell us a bit about that experience.
Stefano : It was a unique experience because it crowned the work of 10 years engaged in the development of the youngest players …. unfortunately in Italy there is no real championship and therefore this competition marked the history for us …. and Being in the final for our boys and for the whole society was a dream
FBSC : What your expectations for the 2019 Madjer Youth Beach Soccer Cup 2nd edition?
Stefano : In 2019 many of the boys who participate in the event last year, won´t be eligible to do it due to the age limit and therefore we hope that also the new ones can face the competition with the same spirit of last year, with great respect of all the adversaries and with the principles of the fair play .
FBSC : Which message would you like to send to all those who will be joining you and your team next June in Figueira?
Stefano : Just go ahead and abide by the rules and never give up
FBSC: Hello Ramiro! You and your team made history last year as one of the first teams to participate in the Madjer Youth Beach Soccer Cup. Tell us a bit about this experience.
RA: Since 2013, we have been working with a beach soccer campus, in which more than 1000 children participated.
In 2018 we decided to create a continuous school (www.escuelafutbolra10.com) so that the children could be in contact with the sport all the year. For us, the 2018 edition of Madjer Cup was the perfect starting point for this idea. Being able to attend this event with more than 20 children, was an unparalleled experience. Coaches and children were able to learn about the extraordinary atmosphere of beach soccer tournaments. The relationship with the rest of the participants, the organization and also the competitive level made the Madjer Cup an annual event inevitable for all of us. Our athletes were able to meet colleagues from many other places who, even though they were rivals and sportsmen, became friends during the event.
FBSC: What are your expectations for the 2nd edition of Madjer Youth Beach Soccer Cup in 2019?
RA: At the formative level, we focus on experiences. The tournament has been able to grow in number of teams and their diversity is a great joy because it will allow us to know other countries, other cultures, share experiences, hopes … In addition, this will result in an improvement also of the sport level with a greater number of participants. We hope that our athletes have been able to improve the technique required and that, in the tournament, can take advantage to put their knowledge into practice. We can only thank all that the Figueira da Foz, and the Madjer Cup organization do for the development of beach soccer
FBSC: What message would you like to send to all those who will join you and your team next June in Figueira?
RA: Come with the intention of enjoying a sport as beautiful as Beach Soccer, where the training aspect overcomes the competitive, without having to give up to compete at the highest level. We will enjoy great experiences and will be unforgettable days. That among all of us we can continue to grow beach soccer and contribute to the increase in the number of events in which we can continue to share good moments.
